Briefing: Functioning of the European Hydrogen Bank

Hydrogen will play a key role in the European decarbonization, and it was included among the key technologies of Europe’s Net Zero Industry Act.
Today, only 0.3 out of 8 million tonnes of hydrogen are produced by mean of electrolysis in EU, with a currently installed capacity of 160 MW; the European Union, with the REPowerEU plan, aims to reach by 2030 two different objectives:
1. The generation of 10 million tonnes of clean hydrogen within Europe borders, and
2. importing another 10 million tonnes of clean hydrogen from third countries.
